Education

I am a retired physician (M.D.) who loves teaching. I was a student for many years, and understand what it is like to need a little help. My medical degree is from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas (1989). After medical school, I completed specialty residencies in Anesthesiology (1993) and psychiatry (2003), both at UT Southwestern. I have practiced in both specialties, and became board certified in both medical specialties. My undergraduate degree is from Texas Christian University. My degree from T.C.U. was B.S. Biology and Pre-Medical (1984). My first degree was an A.A.S in Respiratory Therapy (1980). My first passion was not science or medicine, but rather music, and I started out as a music major (trumpet) immediately after high school (Seymour, Texas 1975), before discovering my love for science and subsequently for medicine.

Experience

I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge and information with others. I believe that we are always students, regardless of our academic achievements, degrees, or accomplishments. As a physician, I have enjoyed helping others on their journey to gain more knowledge in the medical professions. Attending physicians teach residents, who in turn teach interns and medical students, and on an on. I am a very practical teacher, and can assist the individual student, regardless of age and experience. I prefer to work with middle school, high school, or college students, because this is where I believe I can make the most impact on the student's work. I can assist the high school student who is facing a new challenge or the college student who is trying to decide if he/she should continue pursuing a pre-medical curriculum or change majors. I believe that all students, regardless of prior achievements, should be challenged. If the subjects are too easy or the material not a challenge, the mind becomes disinterested. Conversely, I have witnessed all too many students fall through the cracks because of lack of assistance at a critical academic time, with resultant failure to realize a goal or dream. My science and medical background, coupled with my knowledge of human behavior, help me to be a better teacher.

Hobbies

I enjoy nature and exploring the world, whether by traveling to beautiful parts of this awesome planet, or by gardening, both of which I enjoy greatly. As a biology major, I enjoy simple things such as a great zoo, aquarium, or planetarium, as well as reading great books. I still enjoy music, although I do not play my trumpet as often as I have in years past. I love classical music and attending the symphony. I like classic rock music with an occasional concert as well. I love people, and am able to converse intelligently with most all people. I firmly believe that I can learn from almost any person I encounter in life. It is my hope that you, the student, will benefit from my interactions with you, along your path to enrich your knowledge.
