Experience

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin. Have you ever had an instructor who was very intelligent but unable to translate material in a way you could understand? Or have you ever learned material well enough but when taking an exam, everything you learned goes out the window? I have. And I can help you! One of my many passions, teaching brings me one of the greatest rewards I could ever receive. A recent graduate from SMU with degrees in Chemistry and Psychology, I have acquired more than four years of teaching experience in math, chemistry, organic chemistry, ESL, psychology and college prep skills. I have always had the mentality that you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you are willing. I wasn't always an A student or thought I was very smart. However, with determination and hard-working attitude, I adopted a individualized approach to learning. Whether I am teaching chemistry or psychology, one of my main goals in a tutoring lesson is to challenge my students by assigning homework as extra practice. In addition, I encourage my students by switching the teacher and student roles, allowing them to teach me the concept and walk me step by step through their approach to a problem. Like Benjamin Franklin said, telling someone the answer doesn't get them to remember. However, teaching along with diligent practice and reiteration produces the fruit of learning. Moreover, I understand that not everyone learns at the same pace or same teaching style. That is why I individualize my teaching lessons to meet each persons individual needs. In addition, I often ask for feedback and I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not fully satisfied with my teaching. While I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I try to be flexible with my time. So I do offer make-up sessions. My main priority are my students. With that being said, I try and hold private lessons at the student's choice of location. In the past, I have held sessions at a library, Starbucks, Barnes and Noble and at student's homes. I look forward to hearing from you and being apart of your journey to learning and success!
