Experience
In college, I tutored at the university writing center. I helped students of varying backgrounds who were trying to pass the TOEFL and gain entrance to American universities, as well as business students, students taking advanced courses, and master's and doctoral candidates on their thesis papers. Due to this experience, I am comfortable tutoring various types of writing. As a high school teacher, I have enjoyed sharpening my teaching skills on a variety of personalities and learning styles. I have taught tenth grade and twelfth-grade levels (EOC/STAAR, AP literature, honors, and on level). This has allowed me to apply current research and pedagogy to tutoring sessions as I have a unique understanding of students' needs at the high school, state, and university levels. I have seen test scores rise in addition to great improvements in reading and writing ability. I have access to numerous resources, which I use to build on their foundational knowledge to improve speaking, writing, and reading. All of this empowers my students to excel academically. I have years of experience tutoring students in formal academic and private settings. I have tutored middle through high school students as well as undergraduate- and graduate-level students. I studied English and sociology at the University of San Diego. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy yoga, reading, hiking, and traveling.
