Experience

Three years tutoring elementary and adult students. Subjects and specialties include English as a second language (ESL), art therapy, and dyslexia in addition to reading, grammar, civics, social studies, public speaking, and business writing. I enjoy reading, writing, science, and history. I volunteer with Reading Partners, a non-profit agency active in low-income schools. Formerly, Director of Development for a health-sector non-profit called Girls with Guts. Currently, consultant/PR and Media editor for start-up small businesses and non-profits. I am a former paralegal, specializing in medical records discovery, legal brief composition, and research. As a former assistant to the president of the Kentucky Senate, I have an interest and background in government and policy. My first job was a jazz and tap dance teacher and choreographer. I enjoy teaching and working with children and adults. I focus on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and creativity with my students. Learning to read should be fun! Past tutees advanced a minimum of two grade levels in Reading. Testimonials: Upon one ESL tutee's graduation from the literacy program his 2nd grade teacher said, "Thank you entirely for making my job easier. He read the whole card, including the word, 'endeavors.' Your results are greater than academics." Adult Student with dyslexia: "Liz, [t]hank you for all your help. I am enjoying the classes and feel more confident."
