Experience
The most important attributes of any teacher are empathy and patience. I currently attend Harvard University and work as a professional writer and tutor. I've lived all over the United States, although I grew up in Scotland of all places. My scores on the SAT and ACT were perfect (1600 and 36 respectively), though I too had to work hard to get there, so I know what it's like when you're just starting out. Over the years, I've worked with students suffering from ADD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, speech disorders, and depression; I personally grew up inured to social anxiety, so I can always empathize. Some tutors will tell you that they know all the tricks and shortcuts. But really, there are no tricks. No shortcuts. Just hard work and sleepless nights and talking to yourself while brushing your teeth in the morning trying to remember the quadratics formula. ***************************************************** I have a decade of experience and a vast collection of study materials that I can share with you for free. I've had the privilege to help hundreds of students with everything from Creative Writing to Calculus, not to mention the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, ASVAB, and AP and SAT II subject tests, like Literature, Statistics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as well. I absolutely love writing, of course, so I can teach you how to write an action scene or listen to a poem. ***************************************************** Studying is serious business. We will write essays. We will analyze passages. We will laugh in the face of all that is boring about standardized tests, because analytical reading and writing can be a lot of fun, actually. My paradigm as a teacher will be to make myself progressively unnecessary.
