Education

I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biological Sciences (concentrated in Zoology) from Florida State University, with a GPA of 3.7 I have taken and passed the TExES exams to teach Life Science 7-12 and Science 4-8 and currently hold a probationary certificate to teach these subjects in the state of Texas.

Experience

I have been tutoring peers in Science, Math, and English for over seven years, and have been a formal teacher/tutor of science for over four years (at the college level and now, more recently, as a professional). I have tutored life sciences (biology and zoology) and ACT Test prep (Reading, English, Science, Math, and Writing) professionally. My clients have ranged from middle school to college aged students, including an adult ESL reading/writing student. Relevant coursework includes (having passed these courses with an A) - Biology I, II (with lab) Animal Diversity Animal Development Evolution Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (with lab) Vertebrate Physiology Herpetology Animal Behavior English Composition I and II (covered by a 5 on the AP Exams) Chemistry I and II (with lab) Insect Ecology Psychology (5 on AP Exam) Social Psychology Brain and Behavior Developmental Psychology I worked for three years as an educator at the Fort Worth Zoo, as well as a keeper. There I developed lessons and delivered presentations based off of the animals that I cared for and the needs/demographics of my students. I also taught 6th grade science in a formal classroom setting at the beginning of this year.

Hobbies

My favorite pastimes include: reading (fiction and articles about animals), eating, watching competitive cooking TV shows, running the trails near my home, swimming, writing, animal training, and drinking coffee. I love to laugh and spend a bit of time watching/reading comedies, and I love to incorporate laughter/comedy into my lessons. I believe that it is important to enjoy yourself while learning. I have also performed in over 100 plays in my life, and love to coach individuals in acting and in public speaking.
