Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree from Stanford in Human Biology, with a minor in Political Science. All through high school and then in college, I gained experience tutoring students from four years old through high school seniors. This gave me the opportunity to use a number of different teaching materials, styles of lesson plans, and styles of learning. I enjoyed this so much, I ended up volunteering full time for AmeriCorps, where I tutored in a public school with many disadvantaged students. I worked for a year with fifth grade students, including pulling out small groups to work on particular subjects. At the same time, I was the leader of an after school program that focused on helping students with homework and realizing their Common Core goals. I've learned a great deal about the Common Core requirements in both Math and English Language Arts, and know what students are expected to learn. More important than that, in my opinion, is my passion for helping students achieve their goals, and even surpass them in many instances, so they can be successful in their school career and beyond. I especially like creating individualized lessons for each student's interests and learning styles.
